The closing ceremony of the Bilbao Bizkaia D Week2018 (BBDW18) will feature the designer, Martín Azúa, who is to receive a mention as ambassador of the BBDW. In addition, the event will include the prize-giving ceremony for the BiziaGO! competition, organised by the City Council of Bilbao and the Bizkaia School of Decorators and Interior Designers; the presentation of four success cases from the creative sectors of the region; a look at the Bilbao Bizkaia D Week 2018 in pictures and figures; and the musical performance and digital art concert composed by ElektrART for the BBDW18.

Martín Azúa

Martín Azúa is a Basque designer who has been working in Barcelona since 1994. He has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. He combines his professional work as a designer of objects and spaces for leading firms with a more speculative activity. He belongs to a category of designers who consider experimental methods as a fundamental part of the design process. His best-known projects include the “Basic House” which has been part of the permanent collection of the MOMA in New York since 2007, the medals for the World Swimming Championships Barcelona 2003, and the design of the SED Exhibition for the Expo 2008 in Zaragoza.

He is particularly interested in the inclusion of natural processes in daily life and the use of handcrafted resources in order to preserve cultural and technological diversity. He has received a number of major awards including: City of Barcelona Award 2000, FAD ephemeral architecture award in 2008, AD award Best Spanish Designer of 2010, Best National Trajectory award of the Interiores Magazine 2015.
